I enjoy them for a number of reasons; obviously the sheer exhilaration of watching heavy masses of water reach the coastline is exciting and a reminder of just how far the town juts into the North Sea. But for me, a storm such as this, especially if it lasts a couple of days and nights, means that I have very little excuse not to take to the studio for an extended time. The sound of a heavy sea such as this permeates the small town, the spray leaves a greasy salty rime on the windows and the 'weight' of the weather is almost tangible. The storm permeates the work too, grays become grayer, greys become greyer still.
